Island of Helgoland
Helgoland consists of the islands Helgoland and Düne, which until the 1721 flood was a larger island, and has about 1,300 inhabitants. Measured from the eastern shore of the island to the west coast of the mainland at St. Peter-Ording, Helgoland is 48.5 km (30,1 mi) from the mainland.
The Helgoland and Düne island group has been part of German territory since 1890, but not part of the Union customs area and is free of excise taxes.
Too rarely, but as often as possible, I go to Helgoland. In the past with my own boat, now by charter trip, ferry, or plane, I am frequently and gladly on Helgoland, at any time of year and for varying lengths of stay. Since March 2011, I have been a member of the DARC local chapter E20 Insel Helgoland.
Helgoland ist worth a trio at any time
